A reminder about life, being a trollhunter, and fun ways to grow an audience

Spring is officially upon us, and I hate it

Life happens.

What you choose to do and what you choose to say and think, these are all up to you. Your responses are based on a vast number of factors that you may or may not be aware of. In fact, most of the time you aren’t even aware of most of them. You just know that you’re making the most of whatever situation you find yourself in and reflect on it later.

Or not.

My oldest sprained his ankle hard at recess on Friday, and I’ve been the resident Sherpa carrying him up and down the stairs.

Squats with a 7-year-old on your back are a great way to see just how physically fit you really are. The kid is pushing 70 pounds, but it wasn’t the most challenging part of the experience. It was the waiting game to see just how bad the sprain really was and whether or not we needed to take him to the hospital or not.

He’s hobbling around now and looks like he’ll be needing an ankle brace.

Kids bounce back pretty fast, even beyond the toddler phase. The price for me was that I couldn’t step away to write for a day. I’ll have days like that, and I’m fine with it. At this point, I’ll never be without something to talk about for the rest of my life.

Here’s what I dug up for you this week…

Prismatic Progress:

Sometimes it’s ok to look back and reflect on how far you’ve come.

I’m not the kind of person who likes to toot their own horn, but I can at least acknowledge that the act of writing isn’t exactly the hardest thing for this journey any longer. In fact, it’s been a really long time since that’s been the case.

Now, it’s choosing which thing I want to write about the most when I sit down.

The biggest challenge of the season has come to pass…pollen is now getting into every nook and cranny of the South. Everything outside is tinged with yellow no matter where you are.

It’s bad for my walks, but I’ll manage.

This week has been a difficult one because a lot of stresses all came into focus at once, and it has not been fun to force them all to get in a line so that I could deal with them without feeling mobbed. Performance reviews at my job, parenting, tax season…it’s just been one of those times.

We move forward as the first 90-day sprint of the year comes to a close.
