Where I'm at in this journey and what's coming

So it wasn’t just one day.
Due to the surgery, there were also complications to my dad’s kidney functions so he had to stay for most of the week for observation and additional treatment.
I’m thankful to say that he was discharged Thursday afternoon and has been recovering at home since. I’m also thankful that I have a 9-5 job that I’ve managed to build up enough social capital to have flexibility to support my family throughout this process. It’s been a rough week to say the least, and school coming to a close added to the hectic activity.
As I shared earlier, I’m taking a step back from posting in light of all that’s happened, but I’m also gearing up for another challenge as I’m working through Kieran Drew’s “1% Writer” course.
Here’s what I’ve dug up this week:
BlueSky Bit - So glad that Disney didn’t ruin my all-time favorite
Medium Moment - Another writer on Substack reminds you of this truth
Substack Sampling - Something strange is happening to the younger generation
Prismatic Progress:
One of the things that I’m beginning to understand is that it’s all the same.
Everything I’ve collected, purchased, and curated in my Notion, Thrivecart, and Gumroad all have the same hallmarks when it comes to writing and improving the craft:
They all have the same blueprint, written from each creator’s unique perspective.
The difference is in the depth, the nuance, and the style, everything else is pretty much sage advice.
If there’s any indication that my previous life as a tenure-track professor holds some water, it’s this observation.
The people that I’ve connected with walk the walk and talk the talk, and they’ve all earned their place through genuine effort.
That includes some of you here.
I have to humbly say that while this experiment of daily publishing the first half of this year has been a success, it also is not sustainable in the long run.
The quality of my work is somewhat lacking. Not sure if I can put a finger on it right now, but I don’t feel particularly “pleased” with it. I know I’m my worst critic, but I also know that I’ve had to pull back on a lot of other things in life to make this happen.
Sleep is one of them.
At my age, it’s affected me far worse than it did in previous decades, and I know I’ll pay the piper for it sooner than later if I don’t let up on the gas. I’m planning on releasing a three-part series on what I’ve found out so far from writing so stay tuned for that.
Thanks for being here.
