A tradeoff, more frustration, and a simple truth about writing...
Tinkering requires implementation now

First week of 43 and it turned out to be fairly decent…
I busted my butt cooking Thanksgiving dinner and promptly paid the price by getting very sick (not food poisoning). Another reminder that I’m not as young as I used to be.
So here I am, slowly recovering. But I’m hopeful for this year.
Here’s what I’ve come across this week:
BlueSky Bit - Fact…something I’ve had to accept about cats.
Medium Moment - It’s hard to grow no matter which platform you pick…
Substack Sampling - Writing is this simple, and it’s also this complex.
Prismatic Progress:
I’m about to start my fourth year in this whole crazy idea of writing out my thoughts.
As of this year, it’s endured longer than my YouTube project. Three years making videos alone is nothing to sniff at when you were also rebuilding your life in the US with a second baby on the way to boot. I’m pleased to say that I’m only 80 subscribers short of having that channel be eligible for monetization.
I guess it just goes to show that if you do it right, the thing grows on its own.
I’m seeing that with Medium as well. I haven’t posted anything there since school started this year, but it seems to be doing well enough without any particular input. Even my Substack has been growing with a total follower/subscriber count approaching the magic 1000 number that every beginner salivates over.
So basically…I’ve pretty much been able to pull that thing off with successively faster pace in each platform I tried.
YouTube - most likely next year so seven years
LinkedIn - about three or four years
Twitter - a little over two years
Medium - a year and a half
Substack - about the same as Medium
The truth is that with each attempt, it got a little easier and less important to me. My interest has shifted from external metrics and validation to figuring out what really makes me tick…
And now I’m interested in seeing how the world works and how to play the game with this awareness.
So I’m starting an experiment on Substack to see if this whole contraption I’ve been tinkering with over the past year will work. I’ll tell you more about it after this first week.
Here goes nothing.
