The final frontier, a list of checkpoints in writing, and some marketing advice to (not) follow...

Nothing like realization about the potential of your work

My oldest had his first bowling experience at another birthday party.

Nothing like slinging it into the air like a shotput followed by a long, slow, moseying pace down the lane…to knock over the far left pin.

It wasn’t just him, though. There were eleven other kids there as well. It was a fascinating experience to see them go one-by-one, frame-by-frame. At times it was like watching paint dry, but as a parent, you got to see the collective group of children learn from each other in real-time.

Pizza was ready halfway through the set, so the game was abandoned in favor of food.

To be honest, he did far better than I did on my first attempt over thirty years ago. He even did better in my first outing as a yuppie a few decades later. Not bad for a seven-year old.

Here’s what I dug up for you this week…

Prismatic Progress:

After getting back on the train that I started building, I’ve noticed that people are interested in these topics a bit more than I realized.

Something that’s really struck me as I go through writing each article every night is that I reflect on these much more easily than I did before. It’s probably because I’ve been writing about identity and self-discovery for a few years now, and it’s starting to sink in. When I first started this journey, I thought I had a relatively decent handle on what I thought I knew about myself…the Dunning-Kreuger Effect is real.

Don’t underestimate the power of persistence.

Perhaps all this work will have a bigger context, especially given the state of the world right now. If people wake up to the realization of the ease of creating echo chambers, then this will definitely be helpful for deprogramming those who have been mislead.

Perhaps that’s just wishful thinking, but I believe that the more self-aware you are, the more resilient you become against propaganda, both internally and externally.

“Quit foolin’ yourself.” as my piano teacher would say.
