Even more cuteness, some cool books to read, and a risk we take by posting content

Some sadness and looking ahead as the school year looms

What was supposed to be a rather crazy week turned into one that challenged me on many levels.

The coming one is sure to give me a few surprises of its own, and I’ve been having a steady stream of inspirations (not all of which are happy ones).

That being said, I’m looking forward to sharing my thoughts and a pattern that’s emerged from recent events…more about those at the end.

Here’s what I’ve dug up this week:

Prismatic Progress:

Remember that guest post I mentioned last week?

Here’s what happened:

Basically, the exposure dwarfed all my other viewing metrics. It was incredibly humbling to have that kind of exposure. To have this kind of opportunity is a privilege no matter how far you’ve come in writing.

I think it’d be nice to guest post again for her, and there’s definitely something about it that makes you think really hard about what you’re writing. As I mentioned before, I’ll be sharing my entire process for that pipeline in the near future.

Ok, so what happened this week…

I’ve been named Vice-Principal at the Chinese school for the upcoming year. The imposter syndrome is reeling its ugly head at me in ways I thought I’d dealt with already from writing…

  • I’m not a native speaker

  • I have no qualifications other being an alum

  • I’ve got no experience managing an educational institution

What the heck am I supposed to do? I know there’s on-the-job training, but this?

Start scrappy, right? What was it they said about Sith Lords? Oh right…

“Always two there are, no more, no less…A Master…and an Apprentice.”

Yoda

A bit of nerd referencing there. I’m looking forward to seeing what the new school year is going to bring on that front. It’s a completely voluntary position, but it’s one that I believe in as a part of a legacy in this community.

Another thing that happened was a beach trip with my kids. Nothing unusual about it but…

  1. My wife’s grandmother fell and hit her head, so she naturally raced up to be with.

  2. Every other time after I visited the beach, something shifted to change my life in general.

  3. This became the first time that I took my kids on an extended trip solo.

There’s a lot to unpack here, and I’ll be expanding on it later.

It’s been exhausting, but a lot of fun as well. In the back of my mind, I’m wondering what kind of changes are coming, but maybe the things I’ve mentioned here are part of the package this time. I don’t want to potentially lose another family member…there’s been more of that this past year than in previous ones, and the heartache is rough for all of us.

We honor those who made us who we are today.
